Image Enable Highly Efficient Two-Phase SRM Motors with Fairchild's SRM-SPMTM Module

Fairchild's SRM-SPM products are the industry’s first SRM-SPM power modules for driving two-phase switched reluctance motors (SRM) in small motor applications such as vacuum cleaners.  Each SRM-SPM module, FCAS20DN60BB and FCAS30DN60BB, integrates two HVICs, one LVIC, four NPT IGBTs, four fast recovery diodes (FRDs), two bootstrap diodes, a thermistor and various protection functions in a single package. By integrating 14 fully tested power components in a compact 45mm x 28mm SIP package, these products offer 40 percent space savings. This space conservation allows designers to incorporate the controller into the SRM assembly, and improves design productivity and manufacturability. System reliability is further enhanced by incorporating protection features such as under-voltage lock-out and short circuit protection into this thermally efficient package.

Image Increase Efficiency in Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) Applications with Fairchild's Digitally Programmable Buck Regulator

The FAN5355, an 800mA/1000mA 3MHz Buck converter, has been designed with a proprietary ultra-fast architecture that consumes very low quiescent current and yet delivers ultra-fast transient response. Typical quiescent current in PFM mode is 37µA and even with this low standby current the FAN5355 is able to provide best-in-class transient response, making the application more resilient to unexpected fluctuations in load. In addition, this architecture creates lower ripple during PFM mode, reducing system noise and drastically improving light load efficiency to 85 percent even at loads of only 1mA. For more moderate to heavy loads, careful optimization of the power train contributes to a conversion efficiency of more than 90 percent during PWM mode.

Increase Efficiency in Electronic Ballast, Power Supply and Industrial Designs with Fairchild's High Power Bipolar Junction Transistors

These 3A and 5A bipolar transistors, the FJD5553 and FJD5555, save power in electronic ballast, power supply and industrial designs due to their ultra-fast switching speeds and low saturation voltage. The FJD5555’s saturation voltage is as low as 0.5V and the FJD5553 is as low as 0.23V, which is 50 percent lower than industry alternatives. The combination of low saturation voltage and high switching speed positively contributes to overall efficiency. Both the FJD5555 and the FJD5553 feature a high breakdown voltage (1050V), which is particularly important for lighting applications that need a wide safe operating area. These transistors are packaged in ultra-compact DPAK packaging (64mm2) to conserve space in electronic ballast and power supply designs.

Increase Efficiency in Smart Phones, PDAs and Other Applications with Fairchild's LDO Regulator

The FAN2560 is a linear low-dropout (LDO) regulator with a split-supply architecture. Separate bias and supply inputs allow the bias to be taken directly from the battery, while the input is taken from a lower pre-regulated source. This feature allows a smaller differential voltage between the input and the output, which provides greater efficiency over a wider range. The FAN2560 is available in a fixed-voltage output, 5-bump, WLCSP package.

Energy Efficiency

Fairchild Semiconductor is a leading global provider of semiconductor technology that powers electronic products and allows them to become more energy efficient.

The need to reduce energy consumption continues to drive the adoption of energy-saving technologies.  Nowhere is this more apparent than in power supplies.  The average household has between five and twelve appliances that use a power supply.  Many of these power supplies are plugged in, but not in active use.  In this standby mode, these appliances consume nearly five percent of residential energy per year - over $3.5 billion. By increasing the efficiency of these power supplies and implementing techniques that reduce standby power, this wasted energy can be reduced.
