Fairchild Semiconductor's Green FPS e-Series Products Win China's Electronic Engineering Product World Editor's Choice Award
The FDD4141 Boosts Performance of Synchronous and Non-Synchronous Buck Applications
San Jose, California – March 28, 2008 – Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) has received a leading product award in EEPW's prestigious Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Editors' Choice Awards 2007. Fairchild’s Green FPS e-Series was chosen as a winner in the highly competitive “Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Marketing Application” category, clearly demonstrating the success of these products in China.
“Billions of electronics contain power supplies and waste a tremendous amount of energy. By increasing the efficiency of these power supplies and implementing techniques that reduce standby power, semiconductor suppliers can play an integral role in energy conservation. Fairchild’s Green FPS e-Series products are instrumental in driving efficiency and reducing standby power in power supply designs below 25W. We are honored to have this prestigious publication recognize the in-roads Fairchild has made in energy-efficiency with our Green FPS e-Series products,” said Anson Sun, account manager, Fairchild Semiconductor.
Fairchild’s Green FPS e-Series provides high energy efficiency and system reliability in DVD players, set-top boxes, LCD monitors and other 25W and lower, power supply designs. Based on Fairchild's proprietary valley switching technique, the Green FPS products increase power conversion efficiency by one percent and reduce EMI up to 5dB compared to conventional hard-switch converter topologies. Utilizing advanced burst mode operation, the Green FPS e-Series devices meet stand-by power regulations by reducing stand-by power consumption to below 0.2W at no load conditions (below 1W at 0.5W load).
Key features of Fairchild’s Green FPS e-Series include:
- High efficiency through minimum voltage switching and advanced burst mode operation for stand-by mode to reduce power consumption.
- Reduced EMI through variable frequency control and inherent frequency modulation.
- Improved reliability due to internal protection including over-voltage protection (OVP), over-load protection (OLP), abnormal over-current protection (AOCP) and thermal shutdown protection (TSD).
- Narrow frequency variation range over wide load and input voltage variation.
- Integrated fixed oscillator, under voltage lock out (UVLO), optimized blanking and gate turn-on/turn-off driver, and temperature compensated precision current sources for loop compensation and fault protection circuitry.
- Space saving, 8-DIP and 8-LSOP packaging.
“Receiving this award further strengthens Fairchild’s leadership position as The Power Franchise®. The Green FPS e-Series are highly integrated devices that combine the functionality of a fully avalanche rated SenseFET, a current mode pulse width modulation (PWM) IC and various protection functions, simplifying design and improving system reliability for our customers. It is very rewarding to see Fairchild’s team efforts recognized by one of China’s leading industry publications,” concluded Anson Sun.
The award was presented at a ceremony at “The Analog Technology Dialogue” held at the Academic Exchanges Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China.
